Door County horticulturalist encourages growing native plants

A Door County horticulturalist strongly encourages you to plant native trees and shrubs in your yard. Even as snow covers southern Wisconsin and other bordering states, it’s the time of the year that you can plant your outdoor gardens. Tom Wolfe, a horticulturalist who lives in Fish Creek, has some suggestions of good native shrubs that will not only make your yard look beautiful but also be good for the local environment.

Wolfe made a presentation at the “Every day is Earth Day” event on Saturday morning at the Kress Pavilion in Egg Harbor. There are more tips on which plants to grow and how to take care of them posted with this story.

These are more of Wolfe's suggestions on which native plants are good to grow.

Wolfe also had some tips on how to care for plants after you've planted them.
