Algoma library recruiting writers and artists

The Algoma Public Library is inspiring young and old to improve their writing craft.  Offering Teen and Adult Creative Writing Workshops monthly, the library is seeking more avid writers to participate.  Braelyn Dempsey, the young adult librarian, says the classes are structured to instill the most creative writing possible.  She shares the advice received during her college days.

 

 

The Algoma Library is also offering an Inktober Art Contest with registration taking place from October 1 through October 16 and submission turned in by October 23 for prize consideration.  You can find a complete list of Algoma Public Library activities and schedules below.

Inktober Art Contest
Starting October 1
For the budding artists to the professionals, stretch your fingers and flex your skills.
Inktober is a time to test your artistry and the Algoma Public Library is ready to help.
Registration Period: October 1 to October 16 at 7:00 pm
Submissions will be accepted anytime once registration is submitted, but must be submitted to the Library by October 23rd at 7:00 pm to be considered for prizes. Entries will be displayed and voted on at the Algoma Public Library. All ages may enter. Prizes to be announced.
Teen Creative Writing Workshop
Thursday, October 3,2019 – 3:30 PM to 5:00 PM
Join us every FIRST and THIRD Thursday from 3:30 PM to 5:00 PM for our Teen Creative Writing Workshop. Sharing of new or old pieces is encouraged, but not required.

After School Movie
Friday, October 4, 2019 – 3:15 PM to Movie End
Join us at the Algoma Public Library for the showing of a family friendly movie. We’ll be showing E.T. (rated PG) at 3:15 PM. Popcorn will be provided by the Library.

Teen Advisory Group
Monday, October 7, 2019 – 4:00 pm to 5:00 pm
Teens in grades 6th - 12th grade, discuss program planning, activities that can be done at the library, and items to purchase for the Young Adult Area. We'll also have an activity to help out the community.

Adult Creative Writing
Tuesday, October 8, 2019 – 1:00 PM to 3:00 PM
Meeting on the second Tuesday of every month. We will have writing prompts and activities for those looking for inspiration. The first hour will be writing, the time left will be for sharing our pieces.

Teens After School Games
Monday, October 14, 2019 – 3:30 PM to 5:00 PM
Every SECOND and FOURTH Monday, starting September 9th, at the Algoma Public Library. We will have board games, card games, and, once in a while, video games.
