Algoma street construction progressing as waterway closure delayed

As the new Second Street Bridge installation continues, the City of Algoma is getting the street construction nearby completed on-schedule.  The stretch from Navarino Street south to Steele Street has been under reconstruction the past month.  Algoma Public Works Director Matt Murphy says the streets should be back open for the public by the middle of October.

Murphy says construction crews will be alternating between First and Second Streets to prepare the roadways for blacktopping and completion by October 30th.  The closure of the waterway beneath the Second Street Bridge has been delayed another week until October 6 as falsework on the bridge is being completed.  The bridge is still expected to open by the middle of November, according to Murphy.
