Bummy Ball now a Door County tradition

Randy Bumgardner established a pick-up basketball game during his time as a physical education teacher at Sturgeon Bay High School which is still going strong. The court contests have been dubbed "Bummy Ball" and can draw 30 participants ranging in age from teens to almost 70 years old. Bumgardner encourages anyone to join in, even from other communities. He says you are guaranteed to learn something about the game.

Bummy Ball is a throwback. Every basket counts for one point and the first team to seven wins. That means no three-point line. Games start at 5 PM on Wednesday evenings, 5:15 when basketball is in season.
