Algoma working to save South Pier from erosion

High water levels and wave action on Lake Michigan are taking a toll on the South Pier in Algoma.  City officials are looking for help from Wisconsin's Congressional delegation to secure and fix the pier.  U.S. Army Corps of Engineers officials inspected the pier to assess the damage.  Mayor Wayne Schmidt says following that inspection it was determined that immediate work and long-term repairs are needed on the South Pier.  He also says precautions have been taken to ensure public safety.

Schmidt says Algoma is also working to reduce shoreline erosion brought on by rising lake levels.
