State school aid means relief for most taxpayers

Most property owners in Door and Kewaunee counties will get a break on their taxes because of increased school aid in 2019-2020.  Wisconsin's Department of Public Instruction released the final numbers for state aid to local schools this week.  All Kewaunee County school districts will get increased state aid.  That includes almost $275,000 more for Algoma, nearly $240,000 more for Kewaunee and about $371,000 more for Luxemburg-Casco.  In Door County, the Sturgeon Bay School District will receive nearly $60,000 in additional school aid and while Southern Door schools will get nearly $199,000 more from the state.  Southern Door Business Manager Mark Logan says such aids were already figured into the 2019-2020 school budget and each property owner's tax bill will be adjusted.

Two other Door County school districts saw their state aid decrease from last year.  Gibraltar Schools will get $450 less in state aid while the Sevastopol School District will see state aid decrease by just under $12,000 this year.   Washington Island School receives no state aid.
