With the end of October looming, many Door County businesses head into hibernation until the spring. In this edition of Secret Treasures of Door County, author and photographer Tom Jordan gives you at least one reason to continue to visit the area all year long.
If you live in Door County one of the most compelling questions after Labor Day is: “So…who’s going to be open… now?” A lot of restaurants and shops are seasonal. So your choices become limited, especially during the winter. But, fortunately, one cozy little restaurant near Valmy stays open year-round.
The Hitching Post. Now owned and operated by Andy and Carolyn Ripp, the Hitch offers lunch and dinner in an old log cabin building. When the weather is cold the fireplace is roaring and the beers are flowing. And the food is better than typical pub fare. The soups are amazing and the sandwiches and quesadillas are incredible. On occasion, they even have live music. A full bar is available and the service is always friendly. And if you’re really lucky they’re lab puppy Willow will sneak out and great you.
