Smallmouth Bass fishing has been popular in Door County for a long time and one aspect of the sport is growing and bodes well for the fishery.  Local kayak fishing professional Bill Schultz, who is a big proponent of “catch and release”, says the numbers show that more anglers are using that practice on the area waters.  He says Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources statistics back it up.

Schultz says more and more tournaments are going to “catch and release”.  He says all kayak fishing tournaments follow the “catch and release” system of immediately putting the bass back into the water after measuring and weighing it.   Schultz predicts that Door County could be in line for a world record Smallmouth Bass, as well as Walleye and Muskie in the future.
