Law enforcement serves holiday spirit

Members of the Sturgeon Bay Police and Door County Sheriff’s Departments served a side of holiday spirit with the butter burgers and frozen custard made at Culver’s in Sturgeon Bay Wednesday. It was part of the annual Lights of Christmas program started by a Fox Valley radio station about five years ago to help make the holiday season a little brighter for local families in need. The event raised close to $1000 in tips alone collected by the officers and deputies. Culver’s will also donate a portion of their sales to the cause. Sturgeon Bay Police Officer Brandon Shew organized the event and reflected on a personal experience he had last year passing out gift cards bought because of the program.

In addition to Culver’s, Shew credited other local businesses like Econo Foods in Sturgeon Bay and Piggly Wiggly in Sister Bay for matching the gift cards bought at the stores dollar for dollar. You can still donate money and new winter clothing items to the Lights of Christmas program at the Sturgeon Bay Police Department.
