Area Farmers seeing better milk price trend

While farmers continue to get the last of their crops off the fields in Door and Kewaunee counties, one local dairy farmer is optimistic as milk prices continue to creep higher.  Rich Olson of Olson Family Farm in southern Door County says the trend for milk prices is finally going in the right direction.

The all-milk price forecast for 2019 is $18.40 per hundredweight which was higher than last month’s forecast, according to the United States Department of Agriculture Economic Research Service.   The raise was due to higher expected cow numbers and milk per cow.  Overall milk prices had fallen 40 percent since 2008 before making a rebound this past year.
