Names released in Nasewaupee fatal crash

The Door County Sheriff’s Department released the names Friday morning of the two people involved in Wednesday’s two-vehicle crash that left one person dead. According to a release from Door County Sheriff Tammy Sternard, 53-year-old Rosemary Atkinson was attempting to cross the southbound lanes of State Highway 57 in her sports-utility vehicle when she was struck by an oncoming car driven by 46-year-old Christine DeWitt. Atkinson died in the crash while DeWitt was airlifted to a Green Bay hospital to be treated for serious injuries. No update on DeWitt’s condition was provided. The accident closed State Highway 57 for approximately four hours on Wednesday and is still under investigation by the Door County Sheriff’s Department with assistance from the Wisconsin State Patrol traffic crash reconstruction unit.
