The Door County Highway Department is behind schedule on its paving projects this fall due to the excessively wet weather. Asphalt projects are generally wrapped up by the end of October because the ground temperature needs to be around 50 degrees when the asphalt is laid. Highway Commissioner John Koldziej says that's not possible this year.
If the pavement cools too soon, the asphalt does not have proper density and it can roll and become rough. Because of the queue, emergency repairs to the entrance of Ellison Bluff County Park have been delayed until early November.
