Sturgeon Bay School District is dealing with a shortage of substitute teachers, similar to the problems faced by others in the area. Superintendent Dan Tjernagle says that when he first came to Sturgeon Bay Schools six years ago, it wasn't a problem. That has changed recently and the avenues to attract substitute teachers are changing too.
Using social media to post positions allows the district to appeal to recent college graduates who are younger and looking for a foot in the door. Tjernagle says that other enticements like increased compensation have not been resorted to yet.
