Drug take-back programs run all year

National Drug Take Back Day was October 26th but in the Door Peninsula programs run all year. That includes on Washington Island. In 2018, nearly 10 million Americans misused prescription drugs. The national promotional effort helps raise awareness that local residents have options to avoid being part of that statistic. Washington Island Community Health Program Director Christine Andersen says the publicity is a huge help.

 


On Washington Island, it is estimated that 45 percent of the population is over 65 years old. Seniors are most likely to be taking prescription medication and to have excess prescriptions in their home.
