Veterans Day ceremonies announced

The Door County Veterans Services recently released details of the upcoming Veterans Day ceremony that is scheduled for November 11 at Southern Door High School.  The American Legion Post 372 will host the event that will honor all branches of military service.  Door County Veterans Services Officer Beth Wartella says the guest speaker will be no stranger to Southern Door schools.

 

 

The Veterans Day ceremony will be at 9:30 am on Monday, November 11.  Washington Island will also be holding a Veteran’s Day ceremony at 10:30 am that day at the Trueblood Arts Center.  The Island will be recognizing Jake Ellefson and his brothers with a brief biography and slide show.  You can find more information on other Door County Veteran’s Day events with this story below.

  

 

 

 


Here are the details for this year’s Veterans Day ceremonies:
 
--American Legion Post 372 will be hosting the Veterans Day Ceremony at 9:30 a.m. on Monday, November 11th in the Southern Door High School gymnasium. The public is invited to attend and veterans from all branches of service will be recognized.  The guest speaker will be Mr. Thomas Van Lieshout, an U.S. Army Korean Veteran. The Southern Door High School band and choir will perform patriotic music. There will be a luncheon for veterans and their family members following the ceremony.
 
--Washington Island will hold a Veterans Day ceremony at 10:30 a.m. on Monday, November 11th at the Washington Island Trueblood Performing Arts Center. The Island will be recognizing Jake Ellefson and his brothers with a brief biography and slideshow. After the ceremony, veterans will be invited to stay for a Q&A session regarding veteran’s benefits with the new County Veterans Service Officer Beth Wartella and Senior Constituent Services Representative for the Office of Congressman Mike Gallagher, Kerry Niemcek Skaleski.
 
Other events include:
 
--The ADRC/Community Center (formerly known as the Senior Center) will be holding a brief ceremony to recognize veterans during the noon lunch on Friday, November 8th. County Veterans Service Officer Beth Wartella will be the speaker and Vietnam veteran Ken Pollock will play patriotic music.
 
--Unity will be hosting an Appreciation Reception at Sturgeon Bay Health Services (formerly the Dorchester) for veterans and their families on Friday, November 8th from 2:30 p.m. to 4:00 p.m.. The public is invited to attend. Beth Wartella, the Door County Veterans Service Officer will be sharing a presentation on veteran’s benefits. Refreshments and social to follow.
 
--The Peninsula Symphonic Band will present their annual Veterans Day concert at 7:00 p.m. on Monday, November 11th at Prince of Peach Church, 1756 Michigan Street, Sturgeon Bay. The public is encouraged to attend this popular event as the band plays many patriotic selections.
