People who come to Wisconsin to go to college may find it harder to vote if they decide to make their residence here. Students are not allowed to use their college photo ID to register to vote in Wisconsin. According to Common Cause Wisconsin Executive Director Jay Heck, Wisconsin has some of the most restrictive voter photo ID laws in the country. Those laws were enacted in 2016 for students. Heck says it’s a real problem for college students because they lack the time to get the proper ID.
Common Cause is involved in a lawsuit with the State of Wisconsin to try and make it easier for out-of-state college students to vote.
