Supervisors accept donation for LaSalle Park

The Board of Supervisors agreed Tuesday to accept a donation from the Friends of Door County Parks group allocated for shoreline protection. Seventy-five feet of riprap is set to be installed at LaSalle County Park in the Town of Clay Banks by November 9th. The issue was partly referred back to the Facilities and Parks Committee for further discussion. Supervisor Bob Bultman was the most prominent voice against additional erosion control efforts.

Bultman stresses that the exposed soil layer can be a great learning opportunity for students at the University of Wisconsin-Green Bay and other institutions in the state. The riprap approved Tuesday is enough to protect the northern half of the park, including the parking area. LaSalle is located near a South Lake Michigan Drive stretch that needed emergency repairs due to erosion from high water.
