Y's weekend meals program extended

The Door County YMCA announced Tuesday that it would be continuing its Share Our Strength Weekend Meals Program until at least December 31st. The extension is made possible from a donation by the nonprofit Door County Food Pantry Coalition.

Annual Campaign Director Alyssa Dantoin says the generosity will mean more meals are available, enough to extend eligibility to all adults in Door County. A change in how the food is distributed will be needed, says Dantoin.

The registration process has not changed. Anyone interested in receiving food from the program needs to have enrolled for the upcoming weekend by Wednesday afternoon through the Door County YMCA website or by phone at (920) 743-4949.  For those who are picking up after 5:00 PM, they should still use the Program Center on Michigan Street.

Dantoin says to expect a freshening up of the menu. No hot food items are anticipated, but pasta salad and other options are being examined for future distributions.
