A number of residents at the Door County Medical Center Skilled Nursing Facility in Sturgeon Bay are being isolated from the rest of the building after testing positive for COVID-19. The residents along with a few staff members tested positive for the coronavirus during the facility’s routine testing that occurs twice a week. Residents and staff members have been getting tested twice a week in addition to other mitigation efforts since cases started to rise locally in September. Door County Medical Center President and CEO Brian Stephens says in addition to isolating the COVID-positive patients from the other residents, they are taking other steps to ensure everyone’s safety.
Stephens shares in the disappointment of having the positive tests in their facility after following the necessary guidelines to help slow the spread.
As of right now, Stephens says the affected residents and staff members are showing mild symptoms. Per CDC guidelines all residents are being asked to stay in their rooms and mask up when staff enters. Indoor visitation is still not allowed except for compassionate care situations.
