K9 Leo joins Door County law enforcement ranks

You will be able to see the newest four-legged deputy serving the Door County community soon.   The Door County Sheriff’s Department announced on Thursday that K9 Leo and his handler Deputy Matthew Tassoul are currently in training.  The Sheriff’s Office expressed gratitude to Mike and Marge McCoy for the donation that was given for the purchase and training for the dog.

K9 Leo will be replacing K9 deputy Odinn who passed away three months ago from an aggressive return of cancer.  The K9 program in Door County began in 2017 and is designed to respond to high-risk calls, traffic stops, and missing person searches.

The Door County Sheriff’s Department is planning on securing funding for a second K9 and the associated costs to support the program.
