Second K9 on patrol in Door County after training

The Door County Sheriff’s Department has another four-legged officer on patrol. K9 TJ just returned this week with his handler Deputy Tina Spaulding after going through four weeks of K9 training at Jessiffany Canine Services in Iron Ridge.  TJ is the second K9 dog serving in Door County. K9 Leo and handler Deputy Matthew Tassoul completed their training last fall. Spaulding says K9 TJ will deal specifically with narcotics and search and rescue.

Already certified through the State of Wisconsin, Spaulding and TJ will be going through additional certification through the American Police K9 Association this Saturday.  The K9 program in Door County began in 2017 and is designed to respond to high-risk calls, traffic stops, and missing person searches. Fundraising efforts through the Door County Crime Prevention Foundation provide for the long-term care of the dogs in the K9 unit.
