Area grocers clear JIF Peanut Butter off shelves after recall

You should probably get rid of Jif Peanut Butter jars in your cupboards if you have any stored. A nationwide voluntary recall of Jif-brand peanut butter was issued and has led to the removal of the product from the shelves at local supermarkets. Due to the potential presence of Salmonella bacteria, the J.M. Smucker Company has issued a recall that includes both crunchy and creamy peanut butter and natural and no-sugar-added peanut butter.

Jon Calhoun from Tadych’s Marketplace and Alex Stodola from Stodola’s IGA in Luxemburg confirmed that all Jif Peanut Butter containers were removed from their store shelves on Monday.

According to the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA), the recalled products will have lot codes between 1274425 and 2140425. The first seven digits of any potentially affected product will end with 425, denoting that the peanut butter was manufactured in Lexington, Kentucky.

Jif is offering replacement coupons for customers to get a refund and replace products due to the possible salmonella contamination. The online form on Jif’s website is here.
