Door County hosts Memorial Day ceremonies

From Southern Door to Washington Island, you will find an opportunity to honor the sacrifice of many American soldiers this holiday weekend.

 

The Firing Squad from the George W. Goetz Post 372 Forestville American Legion will kick off the remembrances a day early on Sunday. They will perform their duties at over 20 different cemeteries across Southern Door from 7:20 a.m. to 12:10 p.m., with a break at 9:20 a.m.

 

Sturgeon Bay will host its Memorial Day ceremonies on Monday, beginning at 9 a.m. at Bayside Cemetery at 9 a.m. and St. Joseph’s Cemetery at 9:20 a.m., before hosting its main remembrance at Sturgeon Bay Fire Station at 10 a.m.

 

Billy Weiss Post 527 will return to Little Sister Cemetery in Sister Bay for the first time in two years for its 10:30 a.m. ceremony. The ceremony will feature a reading of the names of deceased Northern Door veterans, performances by Dale Seaquist and the Gibraltar band, and guest speaker Michael Mc Carty. Washington Island will host its Memorial Day ceremony at 10:30 a.m. Monday at Bethel Church.
