"Buckle up" or get ticketed

With the increase of traffic expected this holiday weekend in Door County, local law enforcement will be patrolling the roads more closely, watching for unbuckled motorists. The Door County Sheriff'sSheriff's Office will be enforcing the "Click It or Ticket" campaign that aims to cite those not wearing seat belts and help prevent needless tragedies. Chief Deputy Pat McCarty also reminds you to drive defensively and give yourself plenty of room behind the vehicle in front of you. He says speed is one of the significant factors in highway accident fatalities.

In 2021, over half of the drivers and passengers involved in deadly traffic crashes in Wisconsin were not wearing seat belts. Failure to fasten a seatbelt is among Wisconsin's most common traffic violations, resulting in more than 27,000 traffic convictions last year. The safety belt enforcement campaign runs through June 6.
