Judith Owen Patterson

1935-2022

Judith Owen Patterson, 87, of Keokuk died Wednesday December 14, 2022 at River Hills where she made her home for the last 7 years with family close by.

Born June 27, 1935 in Ohio to Bette and Kenneth Owen, Judith spent most of her life in Keokuk moving to town when she was 16. Judith met the “love of her life” at Keokuk High School and married Richard (Dick) Patterson in Mexico, Missouri September 29, 1953, he preceded her in death in November 1993, also daughter Pamela Patterson, September 2006 and sister Gail Owen Knox December 2019.

Judy worked at several places in Keokuk, but enjoyed working for local Optometrist, Rick Greenfield OD the most.  From quilting, sewing, crafting to word search, crossword puzzles and several Bible study groups Judith kept busy on beyond her years.

Her passion was music and would listen 24 hours a day. Country and Western was the music of choice.  George, Allen, Garth, Blake, Loretta, Shania were just a few of the stars that were on her car radio, CD player or Bose. It was incredible the amount of songs she knew by heart.

She always made time for friends and family raising four children and several grandchildren. Taking time for discovering the lives of her loved ones which meant time to talk and listen to them. Never being judgmental, Judith was a disciple of God, studying His word with friends and relatives her entire life.

She is survived by her sister Laurie Owen Whitaker (Mike), children:  Pennie Rothgeb (John) of Keokuk, Richard Malvin Patterson (Cyndi) of Keokuk and Karen Ann Patterson of Moore, SC.  Grandchildren: Laura Wills of Donnellson, Iowa, Doug W. Rothgeb (Sarah) of Mansfield Tx, John H. Rothgeb (Brenda) of Raleigh NC, Sara Matlock of Keokuk, Tiffany Elizabeth Kaelin of Los Angeles Ca, Joshua Richard Patterson of Portland, OR, Jenna Grace Schofield (Kyle) Boiling Springs SC. And great grandchildren: Mallory, Aaron, Claire, Rylee, Raegan, Jack

“Judster” had friends from here to eternity, was always smiling, never raised her voice and believed that life was a glass over filling. Never saying anything bad about a person or place. While we are heartbroken she is gone realize that a better place is where she is now. We trust she will have a great re-union with “I’ll be a son of a ****”

So we tip our hat or glass to a class lady who touched the lives of many people in a good way.   Bye Judster!

Vigen Funeral home is in charge of arrangements and there will be no services held at this time. The family wishes everyone to have a great Christmas season, be kind and pay it forward.
