Two occupants of an ultralight aircraft suffered minor cuts and scrapes in a crash Sunday in the Town of Liberty Grove.
The crash occurred shortly before 7:45 p.m. near Eagle Lane, between Townline Drive and State Highway 57 near County Q.
According to the Door County Sheriff's Office, the aircraft departed from the Ephraim-Gibraltar Airport for a planned one-hour flight before attempting to return to the airport. During the return flight, the aircraft experienced engine failure, and the pilot attempted an emergency landing in an open field. The aircraft overturned during the landing.
Emergency personnel from the Sister Bay Fire Department, Sister Bay/Liberty Grove Emergency Medical Responders, Door County Emergency Services and the Door County Sheriff's Office responded to the scene.
The crash remains under investigation by the Federal Aviation Administration and the National Transportation Safety Board.
