The same community that welcomes summer in June with its Fyr Bal will bid it farewell Saturday when Ephraim hosts its first Sweet Summer Send-Off at Harborside Park.

Running from 1 to 4 p.m., the event will feature balloon artists, caricaturists and musicians throughout the park, in addition to red bouncy balls that are part of a scavenger hunt. Attendees can also check out food at local restaurants and visit with members of the Ephraim Fire Department.

The event is free to attend, but visitors are encouraged to bring school supplies to be distributed at schools throughout Door County as part of the countywide Community Business Association school supply drive.

Ephraim’s Sweet Summer Send-Off comes just over a week before many schools around the state begin classes, with most public schools starting Sept. 1.
