Appleton man dies in Kewaunee boating accident

An 81-year-old Appleton man died and a 68-year-old Appleton man was injured in a boating accident in Kewaunee on Monday morning.

 

The accident occurred at about 4:30 a.m. along the north breakwall near the Kewaunee Lighthouse Pier. According to the initial investigation, the 81-year-old man was driving his 18-foot fishing boat out of Kewaunee Harbor when it struck the south side of the north breakwall.

 

He suffered fatal injuries in the crash, and his body was recovered by the U.S. Coast Guard. His passenger was rescued, taken to land and treated for his injuries by Kewaunee Rescue.

 

No names have been released, and the crash remains under investigation by the Kewaunee Police Department and Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources.

 

The Kewaunee County Sheriff’s Department, Kewaunee Marina and Kewaunee Public Works Department also assisted in the rescue efforts.
