Door County Economic Development Corporation Executive Director Michelle Lawrie hopes area leaders will have a better idea of the housing situation in their communities by early next year as work continues on an updated study.
DCEDC is working with Place Dynamics to conduct the study as it looks to assess the current housing inventory and development activity, factors influencing housing supply and demand, and strategies to address housing needs over the next five, 10 and 20 years. The report will update a 2019 study that showed a significant disparity between available housing units and demand. The analysis estimated that the housing shortage cost the county approximately $25 million.
Lawrie says DCEDC is currently planning opportunities for the community to engage in the process so residents can share what they are seeing and how they believe public and private entities can work together to address housing issues in Door County.
Lawrie adds that a schedule of community engagement opportunities will be released in late September.
