An 89-year-old Ellison Bay woman was taken to Door County Medical Center on Saturday after she was struck by a vehicle while crossing a street in the town of Liberty Grove.

The crash occurred just before 9:40 a.m. at the intersection of Mink River Road and State Highway 42. According to the crash report, the woman was crossing the street when a 28-year-old Madison man attempted to turn left from southbound Highway 42 onto Mink River Road.

The driver told the responding deputy that a pillar in his vehicle blocked his view of the woman and that he was checking on his daughter in the back seat. He said he was traveling approximately 5 mph when he struck the woman, breaking her hip.

The driver was cited for inattentive driving.
