Manitowoc motorcyclist injured, cited in crash

A 63-year-old Manitowoc man was taken to a Green Bay hospital Saturday after his motorcycle collided with an oncoming car. The crash occurred shortly before 2 p.m. on Mathey Road near the Wisconsin Motorcycle Memorial in the town of Sevastopol.

According to the incident report, the motorcyclist was attempting to turn left out of the memorial when he noticed a car driven by a Sturgeon Bay teenager heading north. The motorcyclist tried to accelerate out of the driveway and around the car as its driver changed lanes in an attempt to avoid the collision, but it was too late.

The motorcyclist was thrown from the motorcycle after the collision tore off its rear wheel. Both drivers were shaken up after the crash, but the motorcyclist was cited for failure to yield while making a left turn.

The crash closed the road for about an hour while the vehicles were towed and the area was cleaned up.
