That old gas in your garage, expired oil-based paint in the basement, and used ink cartridges in your drawer would be better off at the Kewaunee County Fairgrounds this Thursday than in your home. The Kewaunee County Emergency Management Department is hosting its Clean Sweep hazardous waste collection event this week, accepting everything from ammunition and medications to household chemicals and agricultural pesticides.

Household hazardous waste can pile up after a while, with the average U.S. household generating about 30 pounds of it each year. Kewaunee County Emergency Management Director Tracy Nollenberg says if you have it, you should bring it in before something happens.

Registration is requested through the Kewaunee County Emergency Management Department. Some items are not accepted at the event and will need to be taken to the Riverview Transfer Station for a fee. You can find the full list of accepted and non-accepted items below.
