If you are curious about what could be in your well water in Door County, UW-Oshkosh would love to hear from you.

Registration is open for UW-Oshkosh’s Fall 2026 Private Well Monitoring Program, which tests well water for total coliform bacteria, E. coli, and nitrates. Additional testing for arsenic, pH, alkalinity, hardness, and iron is also available.

Researchers at UW-Oshkosh’s Environmental Research and Innovation Center have offered discounted testing of Door County well water since 2019 and have worked with Crossroads at Big Creek for more than 20 years to provide education about the importance of testing and build their database.

Since 2019, approximately 150 to 300 residents have participated in the program, which offers testing at a discounted rate of $30.

Because of the county’s karst geology, the area’s groundwater is highly vulnerable to contamination, and results can vary depending on the season and other external factors.

You can register for this year’s program through Oct. 9 before returning your water testing kit Oct. 23 or Oct. 24. You can find more details here.
