As summer winds down and shelters see an influx of cats and kittens, the Wisconsin Humane Society is encouraging you to consider adoption with several specials running through Oct. 31.

Corey Viars, media specialist for the Wisconsin Humane Society, said the Green Bay and Sturgeon Bay campuses are among those working to find homes for the animals.

“As we're coming out of summer, we have a large population of cats and kittens and we want to find them homes,” Viars said. “Right now we have some great promotions for our adoptable cats and kittens.”

One promotion is Kitten Buddy Pricing, which gives adopters 50% off the second adoption fee when two kittens are adopted at the same time. For adult cats age 1 and older, adopters can name their own adoption fee. Adult cat adopters also receive a 50% off coupon for the Animal Antics store.

The promotions are intended to help more animals find homes as shelters manage larger populations following the summer months.

For people who may not be ready to make a permanent commitment, fostering is another way to help animals find a new home.

“You can also become one of our foster parents,” Viars said. “We take care of everything needed for the pet and all you have to do is provide a loving home for that kitten.”

Foster homes can provide animals with a temporary, comfortable environment while they wait for adoption, helping make room at the shelter for other animals in need.
