Farmers who were looking for rain certainly got it over the past week as harvest progress was forced to slow down. According to the most recent USDA Crop Progress and Condition Report, farmers had an average of 3.5 days suitable for fieldwork last week after soaking rains left standing water in some fields.

Despite less-than-favorable weather, the corn silage harvest remains well ahead of the five-year average at 54% complete. Corn in the dent stage is about on par with the five-year average as farmers prepare for the corn grain harvest.

Soybeans are progressing as well, with 49% dropping leaves compared with the five-year average of 45%. Winter wheat planting is slightly behind the average at 27% complete.
