If you want to take care of your voter registration from the comfort of your own home before heading to the polls, a significant deadline is approaching.
You have until Oct. 14 to register by mail or online. If you register online, you must be able to match your name, date of birth, Wisconsin driver’s license or state ID number, and address with Wisconsin DMV records.
If you register to vote by mail, your registration form, along with proof of residence, must be postmarked to your municipal clerk no later than Oct. 14.
If you miss the deadline to register online or by mail, you are not out of luck. You can register in person at your local municipal clerk’s office through the final day of in-person absentee voting Oct. 30 or register at your polling place on Election Day.
With every election come the usual reminders for voters, especially those casting a ballot for the first time. You will need an acceptable photo ID to receive your ballot, and you can visit your local DMV to get a free ID card if you do not already have one.
While mail-in absentee voting is underway, you can cast your in-person absentee ballot for the Nov. 3 general election beginning Oct. 20.
