The upcoming Walk to End Alzheimer’s in Kewaunee on Oct. 17 is a lot more than just a National Honor Society project for Kewaunee seniors Blake Bortolini and Blake Temme.
Both Bortolini and Temme have lost grandparents to the progressive brain disorder, which slowly destroys memory and thinking skills and accounts for the majority of dementia cases. Bortolini, who lost his grandfather, Glenn Teske, to Alzheimer’s earlier this year, ran the idea past his friend and football teammate to see if he would help with the endeavor.
They say it is a great way to honor their grandparents’ legacies while raising awareness in the community.
According to the Alzheimer’s Association, more than 110,000 people are living with the disease in Wisconsin, including more than 500 in Kewaunee County.
The Walk to End Alzheimer’s — Kewaunee begins at 8:30 a.m. Saturday, Oct. 17, at the Kewaunee High School track. You can register for the event or make a donation here.
