Dine and Discover digs up 'dead' stories

Category: Local News

Behind every gravestone is a life story, and the Door County Historical Society (DCHS) is hosting an evening to explore  how researchers discover those stories during its October Dine & Discover program, “Grave Digging: Researching a Life Story,” on Monday, October 26, at Door County Fire Company in Sturgeon Bay.

This past summer, DCHS partnered with the Bayside Cemetery Association in observing the cemetery’s 150th anniversary and honoring individuals whose lives contributed to Door County’s history. The October program takes that exploration a step further by asking: How do you turn a name on a gravestone into the story of a real person?

Presenter Dennis Jacobs is a historian and historic reenactor based in Green Bay. He will lead participants through the process of researching a person’s life, and talk about practical tools for moving beyond names and dates to uncover the details that bring a person’s story to life.
