Local party leaders express confidence as Election Day approaches

Category: State News

With just over two weeks remaining before voters head to the polls for the fall election, local party leaders are expressing confidence in their candidates' chances of success in Washington, D.C., and Madison.

Over the last several weeks, candidates for Wisconsin governor, state Assembly, state Senate and U.S. Congress have visited Door and Kewaunee counties to introduce themselves to voters and share their ideas for moving the state and country forward.

In the governor's race, U.S. Rep. Tom Tiffany hosted one of his Tavern Talks in Sturgeon Bay last Thursday and is planning to bring his get-out-the-vote rallies to Luxemburg on October 24th, while Milwaukee County Executive David Crowley has get-out-the-vote rallies scheduled for Kewaunee and Sturgeon Bay on Oct. 25 after being in Egg Harbor late last month.

Last Wednesday, state Assembly candidates Rep. Joel Kitchens and Renee Paplham and state Senate candidates Nic Cravillion and Mark Becker participated in a forum hosted by the League of Women Voters of Door County.

Kewaunee County Republican Party Chairman Kirt Johnson applauded the campaigns being run by Tiffany, Cravillion and Kitchens. He says Republicans need to carry the enthusiasm they had for President Donald Trump in 2024 to the ballot box on Nov. 3.

Door County Democratic Party Chairman Kris Sadur says she senses a desire for change among the people she has spoken with and believes the candidates who can deliver that change are on the ballot.

In-person absentee voting begins Oct. 20 and runs through Nov. 1 in some parts of the state, although most municipalities will conclude voting by Oct. 30. Completed absentee ballots must be received by municipal clerks no later than 8 p.m. on Election Day, Nov. 3.
