Next Sister Bay Administrator search, Village honoring Joy Lang

Category: Local News

After less than one year of employment, Ben Andrews is no longer working for the Village of Sister Bay as administrator. However, the Village has cause for a celebration of Joy.

The Village trustees will meet and discuss next steps at their monthly meeting beginning at 6pm, Tuesday at the Sister Bay Liberty Grove Fire Station on Mill Road. Part of that conversation includes the possibility of creating a Zoning Administrator position, to relieve some of those duties from the Village Administrator.

In 2025, the Village employed Innovative Public Advisors, a public-sector executive recruitment firm, to replace Administrator Julie Schmelzer, who worked for the Village for 3 years. Schmelzer followed Beau Bernhoft, who started in Sister Bay in 2019, after Zeke Jackson left in 2017 (there was an 18 month gap in administrators). Prior to Jackson, Bob Kufrin served the village for 9 years, following Ron Kane.

The Village of Ephraim has employed at least a part time zoning administrator since the late 1980s, starting with a shared Village Clerk and Administrator position, then splitting the duties into two positions. Currently, Brent Bristol is Ephraim’s zoning administrator.

Trustees will begin Tuesday’s meeting with some Joy, a proclamation for Joy Lang, that is!

The Village will honor one of its long standing business owners (Jerry’s Flowers) and community members with an official proclamation commending her decades of volunteer service in support of the Village’s floral displays - she has contributed countless hours to planting, maintaining, and caring for the flowers that welcome residents and visitors throughout the community. Lang has also been a dependable volunteer for community events in the Village, such as Fall Fest.

The proclamation states that ‘Joy’s work exemplifies the spirit of volunteerism, demonstrating how individual dedication can positively influence the community and inspire others to get involved.”
