Sheriff's Department warns of jury duty scams

Your civic duty is the latest target of a series of scam phone calls being reported in Door County.

The Door County Sheriff's Department announced Monday that it has received reports of a phone scam in which callers claim to represent the department's administration and pressure residents to report for jury duty.

Scammers are telling their targets that they are required to report to the Door County Justice Center for jury duty months after a court summons was allegedly delivered.

The department says the calls are fraudulent, despite scammers using official-sounding language to trick people into believing they are in trouble for failing to report for jury duty.

The Door County Sheriff's Department reminds residents not to provide personal, financial, or payment information to unsolicited callers, not to rely on caller ID, and to contact the department if they believe they have been targeted.
