The training miles are behind Sevastopol graduate Max Krohn, with only the 50-mile journey between Gills Rock and Sturgeon Bay remaining.
The former Sturgeon Bay resident has been training for this weekend's Fall 50 since announcing his goal of raising $20,000 for the Boys & Girls Club of Door County and its healthy living initiatives.
The organization holds a special place in the heart of his grandfather, Dave Resch, who has served the club for 20 years.
Krohn said in August that his grandfather's stories, along with his interactions with club officials and members, would provide plenty of motivation to get outside and run.
Entering the final week, Krohn is about halfway to his fundraising goal. Resch hopes people will be inspired by Krohn's story, which includes a spinal injury that temporarily paralyzed him from the neck down, and his determination to improve the lives of local youth through his fundraising efforts.
Donations can be made to Krohn's fundraising campaign online.
The Fall 50 begins at 6:30 a.m. Saturday for solo runners like Krohn. Teams will depart from The Shoreline Restaurant in Gills Rock in waves at 7:30 a.m., 8:20 a.m., 9:10 a.m., and 10 a.m.
The course takes runners through Ellison Bay, Sister Bay, Ephraim, Peninsula State Park, Fish Creek, Juddville and Egg Harbor before finishing at Sunset Park in Sturgeon Bay.
The course remains open to traffic, so motorists and runners are encouraged to use extra caution throughout the event.
