With less than two weeks until Election Day, Wisconsin voters are encouraged to make sure they have the proper identification before heading to the polls.
The Wisconsin Department of Transportation reminds voters that a Wisconsin driver's license or state identification card can be used to vote, whether it is REAL ID-compliant or not.
"Most people already have some form of identification they can use for voting purposes, including a driver's license or ID card," DMV Administrator Tommy Winkler said.
Those who need an identification card can apply at a DMV service center by providing proof of name and date of birth, proof of identity, proof of Wisconsin residency, such as a piece of mail, their Social Security number, and proof of citizenship or legal status in the United States. Documentation requirements may vary depending on the applicant's circumstances.
Although identification cards are mailed to applicants, DOT officials say the temporary receipt issued by the DMV can be used for voting while the card is being processed.
Residents can apply at DMV service centers, including the Sturgeon Bay location in Cherry Point Mall on Tuesdays and Thursdays and the Algoma location on Mondays and Wednesdays from 7 a.m. to 5 p.m.
According to the Wisconsin Elections Commission, other acceptable forms of photo identification include certain U.S. passports, tribal identification cards, military or Veterans Affairs identification cards, and certificates of naturalization. Specific requirements and expiration rules apply to some forms of identification.
In-person absentee voting continues through Oct. 30 in municipalities offering voting that day. Election Day is Tuesday, Nov. 3.
