A 55-year-old Sturgeon Bay man was transported to a Green Bay hospital after a rear-end collision sent his vehicle through a fence in the town of Nasewaupee last Tuesday.
The crash occurred shortly before 8:40 a.m. on County Highway C near White Tail Road. According to the crash report, the man was driving through heavy fog when he applied his brakes. A 20-year-old Sturgeon Bay man driving a dump truck behind him saw the vehicle slowing down but was unable to stop in time to avoid a collision.
The impact sent the 55-year-old man's vehicle off the road and through a fence at Door County Cherryland Airport before coming to rest.
The dump truck driver told the responding deputy that he was slowing down to make a left turn onto White Tail Road when they encountered what he described as the worst fog he had ever seen.
A witness to the crash said they were traveling approximately 25 mph behind the dump truck because of the poor visibility.
The dump truck sustained disabling damage and had to be towed from the scene. No citations were issued in connection with the crash.
