Leaves falling from the trees and Sturgeon Bay bridges closing for maintenance are two signs that winter is approaching.
The Wisconsin Department of Transportation announced Monday afternoon that two of the city's bridges will undergo routine maintenance in November.
The Bayview Bridge will be closed Nov. 2-4 from 7 a.m. to 3 p.m. each day. The work will include replacing the live load shoes, which are components that help support the weight of traffic when the movable bridge is in the lowered position.
Motorists in passenger vehicles are encouraged to use the Michigan Street Bridge to cross the bay, while trucks and taller vehicles should use the Maple-Oregon Street Bridge during the closures.
On Nov. 10, the Maple-Oregon Street Bridge will be closed from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. for routine maintenance and the installation of a new center lock actuator. The mechanism extends and retracts locking bars that secure the movable span when the bridge is fully lowered.
Motorists are advised to use the Michigan Street Bridge or Bayview Bridge as alternate routes during the closure.
According to WisDOT, both bridges remain safe for travel outside the scheduled closures. Motorists may see bridge engineers, maintenance equipment and drones during the work.
