The Sturgeon Bay Common Council will cross a major item off its to-do list Tuesday when it holds its first meeting of November. The council will hold a public hearing on its 2027 budget before considering its approval.
Last week, Sturgeon Bay Mayor David Ward estimated that the city's property tax levy would increase by 3%. In an update provided by City Administrator Josh Van Lieshout, the council will need to pass two resolutions before officially adopting the budget and tax levy. The resolutions would increase the general fund contingency line item by $500,000, offset that increase by appropriating an additional $500,000 from the general fund balance, and update the 2026 tax increment figures and transfers for the affordable housing tax incremental district and TIDs 4 through 11, according to the finance director's Oct. 28 memo.
Overall, the tax levy would increase from $8,832,205 in 2026 to $9,274,494 in 2027. Ward said last week that the council worked hard to keep the levy increase below the rate of inflation.
The Sturgeon Bay Common Council will also consider rezoning two parcels on Neenah Avenue from office/business park to mixed commercial residential when it meets in the council chambers at City Hall beginning at 6 p.m.
