A furry best friend could still be waiting for you at the Wisconsin Humane Society as the country observes Animal Shelter Appreciation Week.
Earlier this summer, Wisconsin Humane Society (WHS) locations across the state, including its Sturgeon Bay campus, were caring for more than 1,000 cats, including 300 available for adoption. Those numbers have declined slightly in recent months, but shelters like WHS continue to struggle with limited space, with approximately 500 animals currently available for adoption.
WHS Media Specialist Corey Viars says every little bit of support helps because as space becomes limited, so do the funds available to care for the animals.
WHS also launched its Hope's Lights campaign this week, allowing donors to pay tribute to their companion animals by making a donation to the organization. You can read more about the campaign here.
