There's a new Sheriff in town for the County of Door, after Republican Curt Vandertie took the lead in Tuesday's election, winning with 6,566 votes, over 5,322 votes for Democratic and incumbent candidate Tammy Sternard, and 1,108 votes for Independent candidate Randy Wagner.
Curt Vandertie will move from deputy sheriff to sheriff, after overcoming questions about his disciplinary history, suspension and accusations of creating a hostile work environment.
He said upon learning the election results from DoorCountyDailyNews that he's grateful to his supporters and looks forward to working with the community.
The Sheriff will formerly take office in January 2027, with a swearing in ceremony by Door County Circuit Court Judge.
