Domestic violence organizations encourage continued conversations

Domestic violence organizations like HELP of Door County and the Violence Intervention Project in Algoma want survivors to know that assistance is available.

According to End Domestic Abuse Wisconsin, there were 101 domestic and family violence-related fatalities in 2025, a slight decrease from the record high of 110 in 2024.

HELP of Door County Executive Director Moriah Benzow hopes the organization's free services, including crisis intervention, support groups, safe houses and transitional living programs, can help address domestic violence before it reaches that point. She stresses the importance of recognizing the problem and seeking help before the situation escalates.

Both HELP of Door County and the Violence Intervention Project in Algoma offer resources for those experiencing domestic abuse, along with opportunities for community members to get involved. HELP of Door County will benefit from the Chili Cook-Off for a Cause on Saturday at Dromhus, beginning at 12:30 p.m. The Violence Intervention Project will host its mystery dinner benefit Nov. 14 at Northbrook Golf and Grill. Additional information about both events is available through the provided links.
