Verona, WI - Gerald Haft, age 90, passed away peacefully in his sleep on Friday, February 21, 2020. Gerald was born on April 20, 1929, in Sheboygan, WI, the son of Everett and Agnes (Scanlon). Gerry lived a rich and full life. He was a graduate of Sheboygan North High School in 1947 from which he worked on the Great Lakes for two years before attending U.W. Madison where he received his BS degree in Mechanical Engineering. He went on to a long career as an engineer and research manager for Nordberg, and Outboard Marine Corporation, the latter from which he retired in 1989 to Door County. Along the way Gerry accumulated many patents, became a pilot, built boats, hitch-hiked around the country, fell in love and had three children (Sharon, Judi and Tom) with his beautiful wife June. Gerry loved Door County and built a cabin for his family in 1969 where the family made many unforgettable memories. In 1979 he bought a cherry orchard as a hobby and continued to work on this well into his retirement. He loved all things mechanical especially tractors and could fix anything. He enjoyed traveling throughout the U.S. and took many trips around the South and Midwest after retiring. Although Gerry was hard of hearing his whole life, it never stopped him from making friends wherever he went. He was always willing to help others when asked. While his last few years were difficult, he lived an amazing life. He was a beloved father, husband and friend to so many over the years and will be deeply missed by all who knew him.
Survivors include his children; Sharon (Michael Parke), Judi (Marty Kowalski), and Tom (Rita); Grandchildren, Amanda (Chad) Tauschek, Sarah, and his Great Granddaughter, Zara Tauschek. Preceded in death by his wife June M. (Kipp) and his brother Everett.
A Celebration of Life will take place at 11AM on Tuesday, March 3, 2020 at RYAN FUNERAL HOME, 220 Enterprise Drive, Verona. A visitation will be held from 10AM until time of service on Tuesday at the funeral home.
